Meet Professor Peter Whiteford, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Research.
Welcome to our website. Welcome to Victoria University of Wellington. I’m delighted that you are exploring postgraduate study at this University, and I hope you find that the qualifications we offer will help you to realise your goals.
Victoria University offers a very wide range of postgraduate qualifications. At Masters level, we have close to 70 different options available, in various combinations of coursework and research. But at doctoral level, for which the Faculty of Graduate Research (FGR) has primary responsibility, we have just a few: there are five specialist professional doctorates, and the PhD, the Doctor of Philosophy. These qualifications represent the highest degrees that you can study for; completing a doctorate requires and rewards academic achievement at the highest level.
The FGR website will provide you will all the key information you need to decide about undertaking doctoral study, and will link you to our applications portal, where you can apply for admission and for Victoria scholarships.
Universities are distinguished from other tertiary institutions by their continued commitment to research. Research defines who we are and what we do. Victoria University is ranked first in New Zealand for its research quality. I am very pleased that you are exploring the opportunities we offer, and that you are considering joining New Zealand’s leading research university.
And if you enrol with us, I look forward to welcoming you to our community of scholars.
