Perry Martin Hill Library

library

The P. Martin Hill Library consists of approximately 1300 books relating to building and architecture. The collection was built up from the late 1980s until 2004, with titles selected as historical items, but which also informed Martin Hill's wide range of endeavours as a building professional.

The collection consists of books dating as early as the 1700s to more recent titles bought brand new for the collection. It includes examples of rare New Zealand twentieth century works of which there are only one or two copies in NZ libraries.

One of the collection's special values is that it has mostly been collected in New Zealand and could be described as 'books used in New Zealand'. Many of the works are technical books typical of those used by builders and practitioners in the nineteenth and, to a greater extent, in the early twentieth century. This material is often not held by New Zealand libraries.
