Unforgettable: Personal Memories and Young People’s Mental Health
Victoria University of Wellington invites you to a public lecture by Professor of Psychology, Karen Salmon.
Description
We draw on our memories of personal experiences (autobiographical memories) every day to help us navigate the world. Recalling specific, detailed memories can help us solve problems, connect with other people, and maintain our sense of who we are across time.
What might be the role of specific memories in mental health? In particular, are aspects of specific memories related to poorer mental health? Can they predict the dramatic rise in depression across the pivotal period of adolescence? If so, how? Exploring such questions about memory has the potential to give us a unique window into people’s psychological worlds.
