Student volunteers

Our students are part of the wider community and have diverse skills and expertise that they are willing to share to benefit society.

Wellington Plus Programme

Wellington Plus is the University’s service and leadership programme. It links student volunteers with a range of organisations in the Wellington community including those that work with animals, people with disabilities, the environment, health, food supply, law, and counselling.

To connect with the programme, email wellingtonplus@vuw.ac.nz.

Wellington Plus student volunteers help plant trees in the Town Belt as part of the Wellington City Council’s plan to plant two million trees by 2020.

Wellington International Leadership Programme (WILP)

If your organisation has an international or cross-cultural focus, you may be interested in student volunteers from our international leadership programme—WILP.

WILP is an extracurricular global citizenship programme for students wanting to increase their global awareness and make international connections. The programme includes seminars, speaker events, and numerous experiential activities that often include a volunteering aspect.

“The highlight of WILP for me was the experiential part where we get to go out in the community and volunteer and get to know people. It’s the practical side of university that you don’t get to see in a classroom.”
Higano Perez, BA, WILP Alumnus.
