Wellington Teacher’s College students celebrate 50 years on

The 1968 cohort of Wellington Teachers’ College recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary, with a dinner at Victoria University’s Milk & Honey

More than 70 people attended the gathering.

Beginning their training in February 1968 at the Kelburn campus, the group were the first to complete a three-year training course, and the first to move to the new purpose built campus in Karori.

Approximately 293 students began their training in 1968 and lecturers of note during that time include, Wally Hirsh, Des Kelly, Sir Tipene O’Regan, Doreen Blumhardt, Jack Shallcrass, Jim Milburn, Brian Carmody and Graeme Oldershaw. Their most notable student was poet Sam Hunt.

Sash Manojlovi, a member of the 1968 cohort, initiated the annual gathering some years ago and had the idea for the 50th reunion in 2018.  The group intends to continue their annual meetings in Wellington each year.
