Tukutuku panels donated to four Wellington primary schools
Ten Tukutuku panels, that used to be on the walls in the Allen Ward VC Hall at the old Karori campus, have been donated to four Wellington primary schools—Glenview, Normandale, Karori West and Koronui.
The panels, made by Victoria University students in the 1980s, are based on local stories about the origins of Te Whanganui a Tara. These include Ngāke and Whaitaitai, Pōnekeneke, Tangi te Keo, Te Wheke o Muturangi, and Kupe. Each of the panels tells a complete story through the eyes of students.
Normandale Primary School linked the unveiling and blessing of its panels with its Matariki celebration.
