Title: Outcome-specific feedback on courses

Abstract:

The study aims to explore the design of instruments to collect valid and reliable feedback from students and assessors on student learning.  Valid feedback or course evaluation is vital in course review as it ‘closes the loop’ of course development.  Broadly, the feedback mechanism will provide academics with sustainable, systematic inputs for more informed curriculum reviews in continuous quality improvement cycles.  The research will also contribute to the currently minimal literature on course outcome evaluation mechanisms.  Quantitative data will be collected from 100-level university students via pre- and post-test surveys, and post-test responses will be compared and correlation-tested against pre-test data and direct assessment ratings.  Independent audits will be obtained to examine the constructive alignment between assessment tasks and course objectives and, then, select the most aligned—and, in this case, valid—assessment tasks for direct assessment.
