CMIC TEC Masters Scholarship

CMIC Master Scholarships are available for students to undertake a Master's by thesis at CMIC, Victoria University of Wellington:

scholarship level: Master’s by thesis
tenure: one year
value: a stipend of $17,500, and tuition fees (domestic) for a year.

The CMIC TEC Master Scholarship is an open scholarship, where CMIC invites students to contribute to research and entrepreneurship to develop future media services and platforms. You will be eligible for the scholarship if you are interested in researching the broader space of immersive and interactive technology including:

XR (virtual, augmented, mixed reality, telepresence, and remote collaboration),
computational media solutions (computer graphics, computer vision, video and image processing), and
user experience and interface (HCI, 3D user interface)

You will also have an opportunity for future commercialisation and entrepreneurship in the digital media industry including but not limited to games, films, animation and XR.

CMIC Digital Twin Master Scholarship

CMIC Master Scholarships are available for students to undertake a Master's by thesis at CMIC, Victoria University of Wellington:

The CMIC Digital Twin Master Scholarship is an open scholarship, where CMIC invites students to contribute to research and entrepreneurship to develop future media services and platforms.

In this project, we are interested in creating high-fidelity 3D digital twins of native New Zealand birds. Birds are culturally important, but many of them are endangered or extinct. For example, the huia is extinct—only taxidermied specimens remain.

To reconstruct a digital twin that faithfully represents a bird, this project will:

examine properties of a bird's appearance—its material and geometric structure
study the bird's motion—how it walks or flies
develop a prototype to model a part of the subject in 3D computer graphics.

You will be eligible for the scholarship if you are interested in researching the broader space of immersive and interactive technology, including:

computational media solutions—computer graphics, computer vision, and video and image processing
XR—virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, telepresence, and remote collaboration.

You will also have an opportunity for future commercialisation and entrepreneurship in the digital media industry—for example, in games, film, animation, and XR.

Internships

Research Excellence and Entrepreneurship are the pillars of CMIC's vision to create links between academia and industry, advancing digital products on the global market through high-quality NZ research. An internship is an excellent opportunity to gain high-quality research experience and to make industry connections along the way. CMIC is excited to provide a range of internships with either our researchers and partners here in Wellington or with our overseas industry partners.

At the moment, there are several projects under incubation stage in the broader space of Immersive Reality (XR) and Computational Media. The internship period can vary depending on the company and the type of research project. However, most usually an internship will last several months.
