Interests

I am interested in studying the acculturation processes of immigrants, sojourners, and refugees, particularly the factors affecting the adaptation of these individuals when making cross-cultural transitions. My research interests also involve the role of attitudes and motivation in second (foreign) language acquisition.

Recently, I have fused these two areas of research by focusing on the role of second (foreign) language acquisition within the acculturation process. What role do socio-cultural and affective variables associated with language acquisition (i.e., attitudes toward the host language/community, language learning motivation etc.) play in the language proficiency and cross-cultural adaptation of migrants?

I am further interested in the areas of psychological measurement and test construction, and have taught senior level courses in statistics-computer applications in psychological research.
