Nelson Multicultural Council Needs Analysis final report released

Final report for the needs analysis contracted by Nelson Multicultural Council released

Cultural diversity in the Nelson Tasman region

Nelson Multicultural Council (NMC) contracted the CACR to conduct an analysis into the needs of migrants and former refugees in the Nelson Tasman region to better inform agencies and community organisations about what these people need to flourish and thrive in their new home. CACR Director, Professor Colleen Ward, who wrote the programme, recently delivered the final report of the findings.

Four of our postgraduate students facilitated 11 workshops in the Nelson Tasman area with migrants and former refugees ably assisted by local NMC facilitators. This is just the type of applied work that our students relish and we are grateful to NMC for the opportunity.

A Nelson Tasman Advisory Group has been formed to guide the project, with representation from Nelson City Council, Tasman District Council, Red Cross, NZ Police and representatives from the Health, Education, Internal Affairs, Social Development and MBIE ministries.
