A number of symposia are planned under the Capital City Universities Initiative.

The Initiative creates spaces for capital city university academics, students and leaders to discuss how their ideas and institutions can influence policymaking around pressing challenges within their states and across borders.

Each symposium will include an academic roundtable, a public event, and private meetings with officials and civil society leaders.

Leading capital city universities are invited to send experts to each symposium.

Initial symposia

Three symposia have taken place as part of the Capital City Universities Initiative:

  • ‘Will tomorrow’s Asia be secure?' (22–23 August 2016)
  • 'Delivering on Paris: Stepping up to a zero-carbon future’ (2–3 November 2016)
  • 'Migration and populism in the twenty-first century’ (23–24 February 2017)
