Library membership

Victoria University alumni can apply to become an alumni members of the Library, allowing you to:

  • use and borrow books and journals from the Library's print collections
  • use our interloan service to access material from libraries around the world
  • get access to selected online resources—e-books, articles databases, and more—from your computer at home.

Membership options

There are three membership options, which need to be renewed annually.

  • Selected online resource and in-person access: $250
  • Selected online resource access: $200
  • In-person access: $100

Sign up for a short course

The Centre of Lifelong Learning runs short courses, field and study trips and bespoke training programmes to provide easy-to-access programmes, designed for the public, where you can learn from our outstanding academics and industry leaders.

Victoria alumni are eligible for a 15% discount on all short courses (excluding workshops and field or study trips). Enter the code 15VICALUM when enrolling.

Gym membership

Victoria University's Kelburn and Pipitea fitness studio facilities are equipped with a range of weight training and cardio equipment, and offer group exercises classes including Yoga, Pilates and Zumba. We offer an alumni membership rate—find out more about the discounts available.

Newsroom Pro

Victoria University is a foundation supporter of Newsroom, a leading independent news and current affairs website.

The basic website is free, but Victoria alumni are eligible for a 30% discount on subscriptions to the exclusive Newsroom Pro service, which provides up-to-the-minute news on a range of subject areas.

Victoria University Press 

Victoria University alumni can get a 15% discount on Victoria University Press titles, when they purchase them online. All shipping within New Zealand is free.

To claim your discount, all you need to do is shop through the VUP website and when it comes to pay, enter VUWAlumni under the "Gift Certificate Coupon or Code”.

Vic Books

Victoria University alumni receive a 10% discount on books when purchasing them at the Vic Books stores on the Kelburn and Pipitea campuses.

To claim your discount, simply print off a copy of a recent monthly alumni e-newsletter and show it at Vic Books. If you’re not currently receiving the e-newsletter, please email the Engagement and Alumni team.

Thrifty Car Rental

Victoria University alumni receive an exclusive 10% year-round discount on car rentals with Thrifty.

Victoria alumni in New Zealand and Australia get ongoing benefits and special “Hot Offer” deals with Specsavers, including half-price eye exams, free contact lens consultations and trials, and discounts on glasses frames.

With links to key employers in Wellington and beyond, they offer valuable resources, advice and an impressive job listings board–services and tools that are all available to alumni too, at no cost.

The Careers and Employment team run the Alumni as Mentors programme, connecting penultimate and final-year students with Victoria alumni who are experienced mentors in the workforce.
