Praise for Their Faces Were Shining:

Wilson's novel about a devout middle-aged mother from the American Midwest left behind when the Rapture occurs is a smart literary page-turner that wrong-foots the reader every step of the way: featuring wry comedy but also flashes of unexpected violence; having a high old time satirising America's response to the Rapture but also infused with moral seriousness ("The lesson is how to be on earth"); taking us into the midst of disaster but resisting the lure of the lurid; keeping us guessing about the outcome until the very end. It's not an easy novel to pull off, but while he wrong-foots the reader, Wilson is never less than sure-footed himself.

- Guy Somerset, NZ Listener

Their Faces Were Shining is a teasing, tantalising oblique sort of novel whose ironic secularity may offend some, and that, in true contemporary literary fashion, doesn't quite resolve the cosmic and theological conflict it so skilfully evokes.

- Michael Morrissey, Hers magazine

In Tim Wilson's splendid, ambitious and brave novel, The Rapture appears to be merely a blip in history Crucial to the novel's success is how believable Wilson makes his unbelievable central event. He achieves it brilliantly, with an accretion of minor details One of the year's few must-reads.

- Paul Little, North & South

This terrific and assured first novel Wilson has a brilliant, witty eye for observation His time in the US has clearly informed the easy, colloquial vernacular that brings each character to life. This novel delights me, it was a pleasure to read, and I look forward to more from Wilson. More>>
