Ingrid Horrocks

 

Ingrid Horrocks was born in New Zealand in 1975. She spent her fourth birthday in the Himalayas trekking with her family and has been travelling ever since. She grew up on farms north of Auckland and then in the Wairarapa and has spent time teaching English in Japan.

She studied at Victoria University, gaining the class prize for creative writing in 1996, then was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study women's travel writing at the University of York. Also the recipient of the Macmillan Brown Prize in 1996 and a 1999 William Georgetti Award, she has published a chapbook of poems, Natsukashii (Pemmican Press, 1998), and poems and stories in a range of magazines. Her book Travelling with Augusta 1835 & 1999 was published by Victoria University Press in June 2003.

She currently lives in Wellington, NZ where she writes and Princeton, USA where she is completing her doctorate on eighteenth century literature.
