Admission Criteria

The number of places on the Victoria International MBA programme each year is limited, so great care is taken to ensure those admitted demonstrate the ability to successfully complete the programme.

Common student characteristics and admission criteria include:

  • A demonstrated, successful professional experience of at least 5 years.
  • A high level of motivation and commitment indicated by:
    • Being prepared to commit ample time to the programme  and attend all lectures.
    • Clearly understanding how the International MBA would fit into personal career development.
  • Leadership potential in management indicated by demonstrating:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • A high degree of self-confidence and independent thinking.
    • A strong need for achievement combined with flexibility and adaptability.
    • A willingness to participate in class discussions.
  • Account will be taken of applicants' overall achievement, professional experience, undergraduate records, referee reports, and areas of strength.

There are three entry paths into the Victoria International MBA as follows:

  1. Entry Path One: APIB Executive or Graduate Diploma Graduates / SCS Diploma
  2. Entry Path Two: APIB Diploma Graduates
  3. Entry Path Three: External (Non-APIB / Non-SCS) Applicants

Victoria International MBA Cross-Credit Provisions

Qualified students may apply for cross-credits based on previous post-graduate courses. The following table provides an overview of the common APIB Executive or Graduate Diploma Graduates / SCS Diploma cross-credits available.

Cross-Credit Provisions – IMBA 4th Intake

Entry Path One: APIB Executive and Graduate Diploma Graduates and SCS Diploma Graduates

  •  Completion of APIB Executive or Graduate Diploma or SCS Diploma in good standing and an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  •  On occasion, applications without a first degree but with high achievement and a track record of success in the APIB Executive or Graduate Diploma Programme or SCS Diploma Programme will be considered.

Entry Path Two: APIB Diploma Graduates

  •  Completion of APIB Diploma in good standing and an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  •  On occasion, applicants without a first degree but with high achievement and a track record of success in the APIB Diploma Programme will be considered.
  •  GMAT score of at least 500 (may be requested at the IMBA Director’s Discretion).
  •  TOEFL score of at least 575 or IELTS Score (Academic) of at least 6.5 (may be requested at the IMBA Director’s Discretion).

Entry Path Three: External (Non-APIB/SCS) Applicants

  •  Completion of an undergraduate degree in good standing from an accredited university.
  •  GMAT score of at least 500 (may be requested at the IMBA Director’s Discretion).
  •  TOEFL score of at least 575 or IELTS score (Academic) of at least 6.5 (may be requested at the IMBA Director’s Discretion).

Victoria International MBA Application Process

Your application

To complete the application process you will need to submit documentation as per the attached checklist, including a signed VUW application form, two referees' recommendations and a non-refundable application fee of HK$200 via a crossed cheque payable to:

"Victoria University of Wellington".

Receiving the results of your application

When your documentation is complete and your referees' recommendations received, your application will be considered by the International MBA Director. Successful applicants will be notified in writing after receipt of a fully complete application.

International MBA Programme Fees

Programme tuition fee

The total programme tuition fee for the International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) is HK$188,000.

The programme fee is to be paid in four equal instalments of HK$47,000. The first instalment must be paid by 1 October 2010, prior to the commencement of the IMBA programme in mid-October 2010. The three subsequent instalments of HK$47,000 are to be paid by 1 March 2011, 1 September 2011 and 1 January 2012.

All IMBA students are required to pay the full programme tuition fee regardless of subsequent cross-credit arrangements.

Payment of Fees

Payment will be made in Hong Kong dollars by crossed cheque payable to:

"Victoria University of Wellington".

Enrolment for each module will only be confirmed once payment has been received.

Withdrawals and Refunds

A full waiver of course fees will be made only if you apply in writing within 4 weeks of the start date of the programme. Waiver of fees will be granted outside this period only in exceptional circumstances, please refer to section 4.12 (c) of the Victoria University of Wellington Fees Statute.

Non-payment of fees, ceasing to attend or verbally advising a member of staff will not be accepted as notice of withdrawal.

Except where directly specified within this schedule all provisions of the Victoria University of Wellington Fees Statute apply.
