Programme Structure

The MBA programme requires the completion of five parts that consist of 16 courses and six days of professional development and academic workshops.

Part One - Core Discipline
Part one consists of six core courses these are designed to give you conceptual depth across the functional spectrum of modern business.
These courses include:
- MMBA 502 – Commercial Law
- MMBA 503 – Economics, Organisation and Markets
- MMBA 505 – Organisational Behaviour
- MMBA 507 – Information Systems
- MMBA 508 – Problem Solving and Decision Making
- MMBA 509 – Accounting for Managers
Part Two - Contemporary Management
Part two consists of four core courses that focus on contemporary management and are designed to draw attention to issues in management.
These courses include:
- MMBA 516 – Corporate Finance*
- MMBA 518 – Marketing Management
- MMBA 519 – Human Resource Management
- MMBA 520 – Operations and Services Management
*Acceptable performance in the Mathematics Refresher Course is a mandatory prerequisite.
Part Three - Strategic Capstone
Part three consists of four core courses that provide a strategic perspective on modern business.
These courses include:
- MMBA 532 – Business Research Project
- MMBA 534 – Strategic Management
- MMBA 560 – Leading Change
- MMBA 565 – Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Part Four – Elective Courses
Part four consists of two elective courses of your choice which cater to your personal interest.
Select two from the following:
- MMBA 535 – Advanced Strategic Management
- MMBA 545 – Creative Leadership
- MMBA 549 – Systems Thinking and Creative Problem Solving
- MMBA 553 – Project Management
- MMBA 556 – Financial Statement Analysis
- MMBA 558 – International Business
- MMBA 561 – Strategic/International Human Resource Management

- MMBA 570 – Marketing Strategy
- MMBA 571 – Negotiation: Strategy and Process

Please note: The availability of elective courses will be subject to demand, faculty availability and individual programme timetabling constraints.
Professional Development and Academic workshops
In addition to academic coursework MBA students undertake a range of compulsory professional development, including a Dragon’s Den Consultancy Challenge, a NGO (Not for Profit) Advisory project and a minimum of three MBA Business Lab strategy workshops. These are designed to increase student’s ability to apply newfound knowledge across a variety of sectors, and include SME, start-up and larger corporate organisations.
There is also a variety of optional professional development opportunities including personalised Career Development, an International Business trip, Careers Expo and research seminars.
Professional development is supported by a range of businesses in Wellington including Grow Wellington; Deloitte New Zealand; Creative HQ; Hutt Valley DHB; KPMG Wellington; Grant Thornton, Spectrum Education, and Continuum Consulting.
Academic Workshops are associated with the academic courses and include Ethics; Cross Cultural, and Leadership skills.
