VICTORIA MANAGEMENT SCHOOL

The Victoria Management School Vision

"Victoria Management School will be recognised as New Zealand's premier centre for creative management scholarship"

Heritage and Location

The Victoria Management School is part of Victoria University of Wellington, a state-funded university based in the capital city of New Zealand. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in New Zealand and is renowned for its teaching and research. It has established an international reputation for the high quality of its graduates and research, and has a proud tradition of academic excellence. Our School is an active contributor to this vibrant university community.

Located downtown at Rutherford House and surrounded by the Parliament Buildings, corporate headquarters, government offices, restaurants, shopping, major sporting and entertainment venues, and Wellington's railway station, the Victoria Management School is perfectly situated to establish and maintain strong linkages with its broad range of stakeholder groups.

These linkages are fostered throughout our degree, diploma and certificate programmes, our diverse and significant profile of research initiatives, as well as our seminars, conferences and consulting activities.

Breadth of Programmes and Knowledge

The Victoria Management School includes the disciplines of Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations, Management, Māori Business and Tourism Management. The School offers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across these areas. A wide variety of professional programmes are also offered. Our papers are also proving popular with students in other areas of the University including the Arts, Humanities and Sciences.

Quality Students and Staff

Of the 17,085 full-time students (2007 Annual Report) who come to Victoria University each year, over 3000 students choose to enrol in papers offered by the Victoria Management School. These students have recognised that in today's commercial and public organisations there are significant benefits for everyone to have some business, financial or managerial expertise. An increasing number of our former and current students are deciding to continue their learning and further develop their expertise through the extensive range of Honours, Master's and PhD programmes that we offer.

Our School is one of New Zealand's leading providers of this knowledge and expertise. It is also one of the largest in New Zealand, with approximately 40 academic staff and 8 professional staff. The School has a vibrant research culture, with its staff involved in numerous major research projects.
