Introduction to Teaching with Blackboard

This hands-on course introduces participants to Blackboard – a web-based environment used at Victoria to provide online support for learning and teaching. This course provides an overview of Blackboard tools and functionalities. You will learn how to set up a basic course web site, upload and modify course content, set up discussion boards and other communication tools. We will also consider issues of good practice in online teaching and learning.

Online Assessment with Blackboard

Using online assessment effectively is a good way to ensure that students understand important concepts and achieve better results in their final tests and exams. It can also be an effective way of giving and receiving feedback. In this workshop you will learn how to set up electronic submissions of assignments, online tests and surveys, and how to using the Blackboard Grade Centre.

Orientation to Academic Life

This two-day Orientation is designed to introduce academic staff new to Victoria (regardless of previous teaching experience) to a range of topics that have a direct impact on their academic role at Victoria. Day One is for ALL new academics, regardless of previous teaching experience. Day Two targets people new to teaching, but is open to everyone and we encourage everyone to attend both days. Orientation to Research

This day focusses on the research aspects of your role at Victoria and includes panels from experienced researchers, information on funding, promotion, mentoring, and grants, and opportunities to ask questions about Victoria's research processes. It is run by staff from the Research Office.
