Ako Victoria 2012

AkoVictoria 2012 will be on Thursday the 14th of June - note it now in your diary. The Centre for Academic Development hosts the Ako Victoria event annually. This event is for all staff from across all four campuses to meet and focus on learning and teaching at Victoria University. AkoVictoria provides the opportunity to: highlight good practice in learning and teaching discuss the Victoria Learning and Teaching Strategy meet with other academics, managers and support staff committed to enhancing learning and teaching at Victoria share the outcomes of new learning and teaching research share innovations in the area of flexible learning reflect on the role of tutors. Introduction to Teaching with Blackboard

This hands-on course introduces participants to Blackboard – a web-based environment used at Victoria to provide online support for learning and teaching. This course provides an overview of Blackboard tools and functionalities. You will learn how to set up a basic course web site, upload and modify course content, set up discussion boards and other communication tools. We will also consider issues of good practice in online teaching and learning.

Online Assessment with Blackboard

Using online assessment effectively is a good way to ensure that students understand important concepts and achieve better results in their final tests and exams. It can also be an effective way of giving and receiving feedback. In this workshop you will learn how to set up electronic submissions of assignments, online tests and surveys, and how to use the Blackboard Grade Centre.

CAD offers a three-hour workshop that introduces new tutors to some basic teaching skills and concepts about learning including ice breakers, getting students involved, common problems encountered in classroom situations and possible solutions, as well as University-wide resources and support.
