If you achieve good results, you can apply for a scholarship to help you fund your studies.

The Scholarships database is a comprehensive list of scholarships available to existing or potential Victoria University students. Application forms and regulations for scholarships administered by the University and a list of scholarships offered over the next 12 months can be downloaded from the database.

Postgraduate scholarships and awards

Postgraduate Scholarships Update

The Postgraduate Scholarships Update is a bulletin published monthly—it advises about postgraduate scholarships opportunities currently available both, internal and external.

Victoria Doctoral Scholarships

Applications for Victoria Doctoral Scholarships and for admission as a PhD student are completed in the same application process. There are three closing dates—1 March, 1 July and 1 November. The application form is available from the Faculty of Graduate Research website.

Victoria postgraduate scholarships and awards

Applicants for Victoria PhD and Master’s (by thesis) Scholarships should request that referees complete the Postgraduate Scholarship Referee form.

International Students

International students can apply for many Victoria University scholarships. Information about scholarships and grants for international students is available on the Victoria International website.

There are a number of scholarships available for first-year students.

Scholarships for school leavers

Applications 2015 Victoria Excellence and Victoria Achiever Scholarships are now open.

Applications for both scholarships close at 5pm on 15 September 2014. If you are eligible, you can apply for both scholarships, but you can only be awarded one.

Ensure you have your National Student Number (NSN)—or equivalent codes for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and International Baccalaureate (IB)—and your school principal’s email address before you start this application.

Want to study at Victoria in 2015? There are two types of scholarships available for school leavers—Victoria Excellence Scholarships and Victoria Achiever Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to hundreds of first-year undergraduate students each year to assist with tuition fees and accommodation costs at our Halls of Residence.

Victoria Excellence Scholarships

There are a total of 400 Victoria Excellence Scholarships to be awarded in 2015, including 20 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships awarded to top applicants. Each Victoria Excellence Scholarship is worth $5,000 and the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships are worth $20,000, paid over three years.

These scholarships are awarded based on academic performance in Year 12. Applications are encouraged from students who have achieved at least NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence, or equivalent in another qualification.

Victoria Achiever Scholarships

In 2015 there are a total of 70 Victoria Achiever Scholarships to be awarded, each worth $5000, including five Vice-Chancellor’s Achiever Scholarships awarded to top applicants.

These scholarships are for students who may otherwise be unable to attend Victoria University. Applicants need to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit, or equivalent, and must also fall into one (or more) of the following categories:

  • Māori students
  • Pacific students
  • students with disabilities
  • students educated at decile 1 to 3 secondary schools
  • students who can demonstrate financial hardship.

A Vice-Chancellor’s Achiever Scholarship worth $20,000 will be awarded to the top candidate in each of the five categories. These scholarships are paid over three years.

Outcome of your application

Applicants will be notified of the outcome in mid-October. Successful applicants are guaranteed a place in one of our Halls of Residence, provided an accommodation application is received by 1 October 2014.
