Scholarships are available for students at all levels of study and are based on a variety of criteria.

Scholarships database

The Scholarships database is a comprehensive list of scholarships available to existing or potential Victoria University students. Application forms and regulations for scholarships administered by the University and a list of scholarships offered over the next 12 months can be downloaded from the database.

Postgraduate scholarships and awards

Victoria Doctoral Scholarships

Applications for Victoria Doctoral Scholarships and for admission as a PhD student are completed in the same application process. There are three closing dates—1 March, 1 July and 1 November. The application form is available from the Faculty of Graduate Research website.

Victoria postgraduate scholarships and awards

Applicants for Victoria PhD and Master’s (by thesis) Scholarships should request that referees complete the Postgraduate Scholarship Referee form.

Visit the Scholarships database to find other scholarships that may be available to you as a postgraduate student.

International Students

International students can apply for many Victoria University scholarships. Information about scholarships and grants for international students is available on the Victoria International website.

Undergraduate scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available for first-year students.

Scholarships for school leavers

Victoria offers two types of scholarships for school leavers.  These scholarships are awarded to hundreds of first-year undergraduate students each year to assist with tuition fees and accommodation costs at our Halls of Residence.

If you are eligible, you can apply for both scholarships, but you can only be awarded one.

Victoria Excellence Scholarships

Each year we award hundreds of Victoria Excellence Scholarships, each worth $5,000.

Top applicants will receive $20,000 Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships, to be paid over three years.

Victoria Excellence Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance in Year 12. Applications are encouraged from students who have achieved at least NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence, or equivalent in another qualification.

Victoria Achiever Scholarships

Victoria Achiever Scholarships are each worth $5000. Top applicants will receive $20,000 Vice-Chancellor’s Achiever Scholarships, paid over three years.

These scholarships are for students who may otherwise be unable to attend Victoria University. Applicants need to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit, or equivalent, and must also fall into one (or more) of the following categories:

  • Māori students
  • Pacific students
  • students with disabilities
  • students educated at decile 1 to 3 secondary schools
  • students who can demonstrate financial hardship.
