Pasifika support services

Victoria has a range of Pasifika support services to help you do well in your studies:

  • Te Pūtahi Atawhai translates as ‘where people come together to get assistance’. 
  • The Pacific Support Coordinator, who encourages and assists Pasifika students to participate and succeed at university. You are provided with a kete (basket) of specific support tailored to your individual needs and you can also be linked to all other services in the University. Pop in anytime!
  • Māori and Pasifika students’ mentoring programme, for students to get academic mentoring from a senior student. If you are studying towards a degree in Victoria Business School, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,Faculty of Education or New Zealand School of Music—learn from your mentor’s experience.
  • Te Rōpū Āwhina (Āwhina)is the on-campus whānau for Pasifika and Māori students in the faculties of Science,Engineering, and Architecture and Design. Āwhina is about collective success, high expectations, aspirations,achievements, reciprocity and inclusiveness. You can start getting involved with Āwhina in your first year.

  • The Pacific Law Students’ Society (palss) in the Faculty of Law encourages and supports Pasifika students in their study.
  • The Student Learning Support Service has a Pasifika Learning Adviser.
  • There are several clubs for Pasifika students on campus.To join, attend the Clubs days during the first week of Trimester One.
