Pre-degree programme admissions

How admissions work for the Certificate in Foundation Studies and the Tohu Māoritanga.

If you do not have a University Entrance qualification, you can apply to study for a pre-degree programme.

Certificate in Foundation Studies

The Victoria Foundation Studies Programme is taught by ACG New Zealand International College, and offers successful students guaranteed entry to Victoria University of Wellington’s undergraduate programmes.

The ACG Pathways Campus is conveniently located in central Wellington, a short walk from Victoria University of Wellington. The central location means easy access to public transport, accommodation, shops, cafes and restaurants.

Tohu Māoritanga

The Tohu Māoritanga/Diploma in Māoritanga is designed to provide students with a foundation in Māori language, culture and society as well as supporting the development of academic study skills needed for tertiary study.

A University Entrance qualification is not required. The Tohu Māoritanga can be completed in one full year of academic study (February–November).

All students who apply for the Tohu Māoritanga will be required to provide a 500 word personal statement outlining their reasons for applying as well as a letter of support from a person who is able to comment on the applicant’s readiness to undertake university study.

When completed, students may be permitted to cross-credit up to 60 points towards a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree at Victoria. Students must complete and pass the Tohu Māoritanga before enrolment in any other degree programme will be permitted.
