Victoria’s academic year is divided into three trimesters:
- Trimester One (1/3): March–July
- Trimester Two (2/3): July–November
- Trimester Three (3/3): November–February
A limited selection of courses is offered outside Trimesters One and Two. Courses offered in Trimester Three have various start and end dates. Most run during the period called ‘Summer School’ which is a defined six-week period of teaching during January and February.

Important dates and deadlines 2016
Trimester Three resumes.
Summer School begins.
|Fri 8||No addition of Summer School (January–February) courses after this date.|
Applications due for 2016 courses and programmes other than those that closed 10 December. Applications received after this date will be waitlisted and incur a late fee.
Admission and enrolment documentation deadline for new students.
|Mon 18||Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Master of Teaching and Learning programmes begin.|
|Fri 22||After this date, the Associate Dean’s approval is required for withdrawal from a Trimester Three November–February course.|
|Mon 25||Wellington Anniversary observed (University closed).|
|Wed 3||After this date, the Associate Dean’s approval is required for withdrawal from a Trimester Three Summer School course.|
|Mon 8||Waitangi Day observed. (University closed).|
|Fri 12||Summer School and Trimester Three teaching period ends.|
Examinations for Summer School courses and Trimester Three November–February courses begin.
Online enrolment closes.
Special Admission applications for 2016 courses and programmes close.
Discretionary Entrance applications for 2016 courses and programmes close.
International Students’ Orientation begins; runs to 24 February inclusive.

|Mon 22||New Students’ Orientation begins; runs to Friday 26 February inclusive.|
|Fri 26||Deadline for payment of fees; students must be fully enrolled by this date.|
|Mon 29||Trimester One begins.|
Closing date for Round One applications for doctoral admission and doctoral scholarships.
Application deadline to have qualification awarded at the May graduation ceremonies.
No addition of Trimester One or full-year courses after this date.
After this date, students giving notice of withdrawal from a Trimester One or full-year course will not receive a refund of tuition fees.
