General

Equity Grants—VUW Hardship Fund

Open to all currently enrolled Victoria students, domestic or international, from any discipline, undergraduate and postgraduate, returning to study in the following academic year. Financial difficulties and academic record are considered. The number of awards are variable, up to $2000 each.
Closing date: 13th May 2016 and 31 January 2017

Alumni Appeal Scholarships

Open to full time students entering their second year of undergraduate study at Victoria. Scholarships are awarded primarily on academic merit and financial need. They are valued at $5000 per annum, to be paid in two equal installments.
Closing date: 31 March

Herbert Sutcliffe Hardship Scholarships

For Humanities students who are experiencing financial hardship and enrolled on a full-time basis for the final year of a BA, BEd, BMus, or BA (Hons), BMus (Hons), or the first year of a MEd.  One or more scholarships available valued at approximately $2,000 each.

Graduate Women Wellington—Second Year Scholarships

Open to female students who have completed one year of undergraduate study at Victoria and studying full time in their 2nd year. The criteria is to show demonstrable personal or financial hardships in continuing their study. One award valued at up to $2,000.

PIPEF Scholarships for Pacific Island students

Open to Pacific Island students (NZ citizens or permanent residents) who are enrolled full-time. Academic merit, financial hardship, and involvement in the Pacific community are considered. Scholarships are valued at  up to a maximum of $950 each and the number awarded is variable.

PIPEF Postgraduate Scholarship

This is a $2,000 scholarship for a postgraduate student studying to benefit Polynesian peoples. Academic merit, involvement in the Pacific community, benefit of research to the Pacific community, and financial hardship are considered.

PIPEF/VUW Hardship Scholarships for Pacific Island students

Open to Pacific Island students (NZ residents or citizens) who are enrolled full-time. Academic record as well as evidence of financial hardship will be considered. Scholarships are worth up to $2,000; dependent upon the availability of funds.
Closing date: 30 April

Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Pasifika Scholarship

Open to Pacific Island students (NZ citizens or permanent residents) who are mature or seeking a second chance at tertiary study and can demonstrate financial hardship. One scholarship valued at $6,000.
Closing date: 1 October

Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Scholarships for mature students

There are 20 scholarships of $1000 each. These are awarded to mature students (students who are 25 years old and over) studying at either undergraduate or postgraduate level. Academic merit, financial hardship, and involvement in the Pacific community are considered.
Closing date: 31 March

Tumau Awards

Open to Māori and Pacific Island students. The number of grants are variable and range from $900 to $1600 Academic record as well as evidence of financial hardship will be considered.
Closing date: 30 April

Graduate Women of Wellington—Masters by Thesis Scholarship

Open to female students who are enrolled in a Master's degree by thesis or intending to enrol for a Master’s degree by thesis. Financial needs will be taken into account. Two awards valued at $4,000.
Closing date: 31 October

Sanitarium Pasifika Scholarship

Applicants must be New Zealand-based Pasifika students who are currently enrolled full-time for an undergraduate degree course, or intending to enrol full-time for their first year of study for a degree course, or enrolled in postgraduate studies at Victoria, and are facing financial hardship. Scholarship value and numbers will vary depending on funds available.

Subject specific

Claire Palmer-Jones Scholarship

Open to second or third year students studying literature and/or modern languages who are facing financial hardship. One award valued at approximately $2500.

Margaret Nielsen Music Scholarship

Open to a student beginning a BMus in Musical Performance. Awarded on the basis of musical ability and financial need. One award subject to funds available.
Closing date: 31 March

Averil Brent Scholarship in Science

Open to NZ and Canadian female citizens who are full time studying any area of science, including Architecture & Design from 300 level and above. Based on academic merit but financial need taken into account. Up to two scholarships valued at approximately $2500.

Dan F. Jones Scholarship in Science

Open to students completing an Honours degree in Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology or Earth Sciences. Two or more awards, value determined annually and subject to funds available. Academic record and financial need are considered.

Faculty of Commerce Undergraduate Exchange Scholarships

Open to students studying for undergraduate degrees within the Faculty of Commerce who have been accepted for the Victoria University exchange programme and who show a capacity for leadership and responsibility in business or the wider community. Academic achievement and hardship will also be considered. Number of awards varies. $3,000 for one trimester and $5,000 for two successive trimesters.
Closing date: 1 May and 1 October

Philippa & Morvyn Williams Scholarships

Open to Masters and PhD students whose study is likely to assist in the revitalisation of Māori language, culture and heritage. Financial need to be considered. One or two awards, value subject to funds available.

Graduate Women Wellington—Ella C Wilson Music Award

To support students of the New Zealand School of Music who have completed a BMus (Hons) degree who intend to complete a MMus or MMA degree in Musicology or Composition at the NZSM, or students who have completed Part I of the MMusTher degree and who intend to complete Part II of the MMusTher degree at the NZSM. Selection will be based on academic excellence and financial need.  One award up to a maximum of $3,000.

Henry McDowell Smith Scholarship for Architectural Students

Open to full time students enrolled in a BAS and from Otago/Southland provincial area. Main purpose of the award is to provide assistance where lack of finance is likely to inhibit a student from completing the course. One award, amount is variable.

Alison Morton Scholarship in Ecology/Marine Biology

Open to full time students enrolled in BSc Hons or MSc in Ecology or Marine Biology who completed their undergraduate degree at Victoria. Financial need as well as academic merit are taken into account. One award approximately $1,500.
Closing date: 1 October

Wellington Women Lawyers Association Scholarship

Applicants must be female full-time undergraduate students studying for their LLB at 200 level or above. The selection of recipients will be made primarily on the basis of financial need. Up to two awards are offered at a value of $2000 each.
