Preparing for graduation
Everything you need to know leading up to graduation—ceremony and parade times, ticket and academic dress collection.
1. Apply for graduation
Graduation ceremonies are held twice a year, in May and December—you can apply to graduate in person, in advance, in absentia or to defer your graduation.
Check the application deadlines and how to apply.
2. Hire your academic dress
When taking part in any Victoria graduation ceremony you must wear academic dress. You need to apply for your academic dress by 1 March for May ceremonies or 1 October for December ceremonies.
Collection and returns
You can pick up your academic dress from Murphy building on Kelburn campus the week of your graduation, make sure you keep your receipt.
Collection and return times will be confirmed when the ceremony details are released.
3. Check your ceremony times
There are six ceremonies held from Tuesday to Thursday during May graduation and four ceremonies held from Wednesday to Friday for December graduation.
Ceremony 1—Tuesday 16 May, 1.30pm

Ceremony 3—Wednesday 17 May, 1.30pm
Ceremony 4—Wednesday 17 May, 6pm
4. Check your emails
You'll receive information by email from the Graduation Office, including the Graduands' Handbook. This will be emailed to you six weeks prior to graduation. It's important that you advise the Graduation Office if your email address changes.
5. Collect your tickets
When you graduate you'll receive tickets for your guests to attend the ceremony. You can collect these a week before your graduation. Ten weeks prior to graduation, the Graduation Office will advise you of your ticket allocation.
6. Take part in the parade
The street parades are a highlight of our graduation celebrations and all graduands are encouraged to take part. The parade leaves from the Law School at Pipitea campus and finishes at Civic Square.
