Research programmes in the Lester laboratory group
My research program is becoming increasingly directed towards invasive ants: their ecology and biology, and understanding their invasion processes. I have programs based in New Zealand examining Argentine ants and other invasive species, as well as in the Pacific where my research is focussed on yellow crazy ants. You can see more detail on these topics in the sections on completed or ongoing research projects.
In addition to these projects I have or am supervising students on an array of different projects. Topics include parasitoid ecology and the biological control of horticultural pests, phytoplankton blooms in lakes, and the insect-fungi ecology. You can see more about these topics in my page on researchers associated with my lab. All of my graduate students have published or have publications in press, which will also give you an idea about the research areas ongoing in my group.
