Awards Which Consider Financial NeedNote: This is not an exhaustive list. Check the Scholarships_Database to look for awards relevant to your personal criteria. Herbert Sutcliffe Hardship Scholarships Six scholarships for Humanities students who are experiencing financial hardship and enrolled on a full-time basis for the final year of a BA, BEd, BMus, or BA (Hons), BMus (Hons), or the first year of a MEd. Six awards valued at approximately $2,000 each. NZ Federation of Graduate Women (Wellington Branch) Scholarship for 2nd Year Students Open to female students who have completed one year of undergraduate study at VUW and studying full time in their 2nd yr. Criteria to show demonstrable personal or financial hardships in continuing their study. Two awards valued up to $2,000. PIPEF Scholarships for Pacific Island Students
Open to Pacific Island students (NZ citizens or permanent residents) who are enrolled full-time at a tertiary institution and can demonstrate financial hardship. Scholarships are valued at a minimum of $500 each. The number awarded is variable. Norman Kirk Memorial Trust (NKMT) Scholarships for Pacific Island Students Open to Pacific Island students (NZ citizens or permanent residents) who are mature or seeking a second chance at tertiary study and can demonstrate financial hardship. 20 Scholarships valued at $500 each. New Horizons for Women Trust 2nd Chance Education and Training Awards Open to women returning to education or training who did not obtain a tertiary qualification (NZQA level 4) when younger and are aged 27 or over. Valued at $2,000. PIPEF / VUW Hardship Scholarships for Pacific Island Students Open to Pacific Island students (NZ residents) who are enrolled full-time and can demonstrate financial hardship. Scholarships are worth approximately $1,500 each. Tumau Awards Open to Māori and Pacific students. Approximately 35 Māori and 15 Pacific awards ranging in value from $500 up to $1,500 each. Academic record as well as evidence of financial hardship will be considered. Hardship Fund Equity Grants Open to all currently enrolled VUW students, domestic and international, from any discipline, undergraduate and postgraduate, returning to study in the following academic year. Financial difficulties and academic record are taken into consideration. Awards are variable, up to $2000 each. Rotary Club of Wellington North Education Fund Open to students within the Wellington region to enable them to undertake tertiary study. Financial hardship must be demonstrated. Value is unspecified but greater than $1000 and several are awarded. NZ Federation of Graduate Women (Wellington Branch) Masters by Thesis Scholarship Open to female students who are enrolled for a Master's degree by thesis. Financial needs will be taken into account. Two awards valued at $3,000. SUBJECT TARGETTED SCHOLARSHIPS:Margaret Nielsen Music Scholarship Open to a student beginning a BMus in Musical Performance. Awarded on the basis of musical ability and financial need. One award approximately $1,000. Averil Brent Scholarship Open to NZ and Canadian female citizens who are full time studying any area of science, including Architecture and Design from 300 level and above. Based on academic merit but financial need taken into account. One award valued approximately at $750. Dan F. Jones Scholarship in Science Open to students completing an Honours degree in Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology or Earth Sciences. Two or more awards, total value approximately $5,000. Academic record and financial need are considered. The Swafford Family Scholarship Open to students enrolled in any area of Education. Chosen primarily on the basis of financial need as well as academic merit. One award approximately $1,000. Philippa & Morvyn Williams Scholarships Open to Masters and Phd students whose study is likely to assist in the revitalisation of Māori language, culture and heritage. Financial need to be considered. One or two awards approximately $3,000 to $8,000 each. NZFGW (Wgtn Branch) Mature Student Teacher Training Award Open to women over 30 years of age with a preference for those who have not obtained a qualification of NZQA level 4. It is to encourage mature women retraining for teaching at VUW College of Education. One award of $2000 NZGW (Wgtn Branch) Ella C Wilson Awards Student must have completed at least 12 credits towards a music degree and require financial help with incidental expenses such as books, equipment, child care, travel within New Zealand, One award up to a maximum of $2,000. Henry McDowell Smith Scholarship for Architectural Students Open to full time students enrolled in a BArch and from Otago/Southland provincial area. Main purpose of the award is to provide assistance where lack of finance is likely to inhibit a student from completing the course. Number and amount of awards is variable. Alison Morton Scholarship in Ecology / Marine Biology Open to full time students enrolled in BSc Hons or MSc in Ecology or Marine Biology and who completed their undergraduate degree at VUW.
