Payment Using the Student Loan Living Costs or Student Allowance
Hostel accommodation is for 38 weeks and is usually paid in 4 advance instalments. Meeting the instalment payments can be difficult for students who are reliant on the Student Loan Living Costs of $169.51 per week or the Student Allowance of $207.83 maximum per week.
The Student Loan Living Costs or the Student Allowance is paid weekly for 37 weeks. Payments start the second week of the course. In 2012, payments commence the week of 12 March and end the week of 19 November.
The first hostel instalment is due one week before the course begins. This payment must be funded from personal savings.
Instalments 2, 3 and 4 can be partially paid by saving the weekly Student Loan Living Costs or the Student Allowance. This will not be enough to meet the full amount due on instalment.
Listed below are sample payment schedules for the Halls of Residence. They calculate the shortfall between the amount owing and loan/allowance payments received.
