How do I apply for a Student Allowance?

If you have not applied for a Student Loan, then you will first need to create an account at StudyLink. Follow the steps as described in the Student Loan section.

Do I qualify for a Student Allowance?

Students under 24

All students under 24, regardless of work history, living at home or away from home, or whether they are married with no children, will be assessed on parental income. Students must be enrolled full time.

The following StudyLink links will enable you to determine your eligibility and what amount you may receive:

Students 24 and above

Students 24 and above studying full time are eligible for an allowance of $204.96 net per week (single, living away from home) or $163.96 net per week(single, living at home). Your eligibility depends on personal income limits.

Students living away from home who qualify for an allowance also qualify for a $40 per week accommodation benefit.

Rates differ for students with earning partners and/or children. Check this Studylink section for more information.

200 Week Limit

You can get the student allowance for 200 weeks in a lifetime. Extensions are possible in certain situations.
