The Programme Components

Victoria Plus is a three-part leadership development programme that can be completed at Certificate and Award level.

The three components are completed alongside your degree studies. There are different requirements for each level.

Component 1 - Activities

The Programme encourages you to take the initiative and get involved. It is up to you to organise and participate in a range of approved activities in the university and the wider Wellington community. The choice is yours! You can select activities that interest you, challenge you, complement your degree, and help you develop key graduate attributes and skills relevant to your subject/career choices. Start by checking out some of the ways to volunteer and engage with other students and your university here. A full list of approved activities in the university and community is available on CareerHub/Victoria Plus Resources.

Component 2 - Professional & Personal Development

As part of the programme, you attend a specific number of seminars and workshops. There are three categories:

  • Category A - Leadership and Social Responsibility
In the past topics have included: Leadership and Development, Women in Leadership, Corporate Social Responsibility and Developing High Performance Teams.
  • Category B - Skills Development
Options include: Networking Skills, Mindmapping and Critical Thinking.
  • Category C – Career Development
Options include: CV, Cover Letter and Interview workshops, Careers in Focus events.

Further details are available after you have registered on the programme.

Component 3 – ePortfolio

An ePortfolio is a digital collection of information, evidence and examples of your interests, skills and achievements and your reflections of these over time. For Victoria Plus you build your ePortfolio by entering your experiences, activities and skills, kind of like an electronic diary. The outcome of reflection is to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your skills, how you dealt with situations, and what you learnt.

Completing the ePortfolio also helps you prepare for writing your CV and for job interviews. Find out more about ePortfolios here.

Victoria Plus Certificate

The Victoria Plus Certificate is an introductory level service and leadership programme which can be completed in 6-12 months. It is ideal for students who are studying at Victoria for one year or for those students who can only commit a limited amount of time to extracurricular activities. It may be awarded at any time during a student’s studies.

The Certificate can lead onto the Victoria Plus Award.
