John Davies announced as new Emeritus Professor
Congratulations to Professor John Davies, who has been announced as an Emeritus Professor at Victoria University of Wellington.
Emeritus Professor John Davies joined Victoria University in May 1980, when he was appointed as a lecturer in what was then the Department of Business Administration within the Faculty of Commerce and Administration.
He was a leader in teaching the applications of operations research/management science and sports management in the Faculty, and highly regarded by students.
Early in his career Professor Davies was appointed as Director of the Diploma of Business Administration, and he held this position for the next two decades. He was also instrumental, along with Professors Graham Fogelberg, David Cullwick and Ian Eggleton, in developing the Master of Business Administration at Victoria.
Professor Davies held the position of Chairman of the Management Group for five years in the 1990s, and was the Head of the School of Management from 2004 to 2008.
He was appointed as the inaugural Associate Dean (International & Executive Education) in 2012. His notable successes in this role include creating and strengthening partnerships in China, such as the association with the China Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange, and then with colleagues in Victoria International, helping to develop and consolidate Victoria's partnership with Kolej Yayasan Saad International College, Malaysia.
As Associate Dean (International & Executive Education), Professor Davies also assumed responsibility for chairing the Victoria Business School (VBS) Accreditation Committee in 2012.
He led the process forVBS to achieve re-accreditation with the 'triple crown' of business school accreditations: The Association of MBAs (AMBA), the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). He was also appointed by AACSB as a mentor for the Sampoerna Business School in Jakarta.
Professor Davies has accumulated over 100 scholarly publications throughout his academic career. He has taught at all levels, and is an accomplished supervisor for Master's and PhD students.
He has also served as President of the Wellington Rugby Football Union, and is one of only two Victoria academics to have held the position.
