SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT

Research in the School of Government

The heart of intellectual life of the School is its vibrant research activity from both academic staff and students.

The School's strength lies in interdisciplinary, applied scholarship underpinned by research in ten or more contributing disciplines spanning the physical sciences and medicine, law, the social sciences and humanities.

Individual academics pursue a variety of interests, resulting in publications, presentations to domestic and international audiences and reports. Their research programmes underpin their teaching and their advice to governmental and non-governmental bodies.

Key Teaching and Research Themes of the School of Government

  • Building public sector capability through tailored non-award, undergraduate, Honours, professional Master's and research Master's, as well as doctoral programmes delivered to those who work in, or who wish to work in the public sector in New Zealand and elsewhere.
  • Improving public sector governance through research into public management and administration including national, regional and local government, e-government and the contribution of non-government organizations; and communication of the results of this research to the public sector in New Zealand, as well as through academic publication.
  • Advising on, and contributing to scholarship in important areas of public policy by utilizing staff expertise to address issues which currently include:
  •              - Climate change and other aspects of sustainability
