Chair in Business in Asia - About

The Chair in Business in Asia creates and shares knowledge that promotes and supports effective New Zealand business engagement with Asia.

Core activities of the Chair in Business in Asia

The Chair will concentrate on four core activities:

  1. High quality academic research on Asia with a business and policy focus: building knowledge of Asian markets, and business culture and practice in the region. This will include research collaboration nationally and internationally
  2. Executive education: building capability in the corporate and SME business sector, the public sector and the professions, including law firms and business consultancies working with New Zealand clients on their commercial operations in Asia
  3. Practitioner-informed undergraduate and graduate teaching programmes: academic, business and government contributors collaborating to build knowledge and awareness of Asia among future business leaders
  4. Public Education Programmes: reaching a broader range of business people and the wider communityThe Professorial Chair was established to enhance work relating to strategies and policies for New Zealand firms competing in Asia.

About Professor Siah Hwee Ang

Professor Siah Hwee AngProfessor Siah Hwee Ang is the inaugural Chair in Business in Asia. Before joining Victoria University of Wellington, he was Professor in Strategy at the University of Auckland Business School and has also been researching at Cass Business School, City University in London.

Professor Ang holds a PhD in Management from the National University of Singapore, where he has also been a teaching fellow and research fellow.

He was appointed the lead for the Enabling Our Asia Pacific Trading Nation theme, one of the eight academic distinctiveness themes in the University, in August 2017.

Research focus

Professor Ang's research interests are the areas of alliances and acquisitions, competition, technology strategy, international business strategy, reputation and international and strategic human resource management.

He also has special interests in biotechnology and information technology-related industries.
