Asian Studies Institute

The purpose of the Asian Studies Institute is to act as a focal point at Victoria University of Wellington for the University's Asia-related teaching, research and outreach activities in the wider community. The Institute is currently managed by a Director working with a Council and an Executive Committee. Read more about the Institute's staff.

The Asian Studies Institute began work in October 1997 with the appointment of its first Director, and followed upon the work of an earlier Board of Asian Studies, which was largely responsible for turning the idea of an Institute into reality. Many members of the earlier Board now serve on the Council, the Executive Committee or as Fellows of the Institute.
