The School of Languages and Cultures are looking for talented, dedicated people to join the team and fulfil the following roles in 2017: Japanese teaching fellow, Chinese teaching fellow, Language tutors (various).

Teaching fellow in Japanese

The School of Languages and Cultures invites applications for a teaching fellow in the Japanese programme for 2017.

The successful applicant will be responsible for course coordination, delivery of lectures, marking and student consultation. Expressions of interest are sought from those who are native or near native speakers of the language, hold a university qualification and/or have experience in teaching a foreign language to students at university.  


Teaching fellow in Chinese

The School of Languages and Cultures invites applications for a teaching fellow in the Chinese programme for 2017.

The successful applicant will be responsible for course coordination, delivery of lectures, marking and student consultation for the following courses:

  • CHIN 211 (Chinese Language 2A) Trimester 1
  • CHIN 212 (Chinese Language 2B) Trimester 2

Expressions of interest are sought from those who are native or near native speakers of the language, hold a university qualification and/or have experience in teaching a foreign language to students at university.


Tutor Vacancies

Language tutoring positions (daytime)

The School of Languages and Cultures invites applications for part-time tutoring positions in undergraduate Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese and Spanish language courses, held at the Kelburn campus.  The roles include tutoring language classes and student consultation.  Assessment and marking may also be required. 

Language tutoring positions (evening)

The School of Languages and Cultures invites applications for tutoring positions in Trimester 1 2017. The roles include tutoring language classes.  Assessment and marking may also be required. There are positions available in the following courses:

  • CHIN 101 (Chinese Language 1A) Thursdays 6-8pm, Pipitea campus
  • ITAL 114 (Intro to Italian Language) Thursdays 6-8pm, Pipitea campus
  • SPAN 111 (Intro to the Spanish Language) Tuesdays 6-8pm, Pipitea campus

Other tutoring positions

The School of Languages and Cultures invites applications for tutoring positions in the following courses:

  • ASIA 101 (Introduction to Asian Studies) Trimester 1
  • JAPA 113 (Introduction to Japanese Culture and Society) Trimester 1

The roles include tutoring, marking (where required), and student consultation.  

Expressions of interest are sought from those who are native or near native speakers, hold a university qualification and/or have experience in teaching a foreign language to students at university.  Applications from current SLC postgraduate students, as well as previous applicants, are encouraged.
