Introduction
A Master's degree is now the international standard qualification for an information professional, whether you are employed as a librarian, archivist, records manager, or knowledge/web content manager. To meet this growing demand in both private and public sectors, Victoria's School of Information Management offers the Master of Information Studies (MIS).
The Information Studies Programmes offer broadly-based, technology focused qualifications for information professionals, with content and structure evolving to reflect the dynamic and rapidly changing work environment of information and communication technologies. As well as the MIS degree, there are 'stepping stone' options of a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate.
All students will be exposed to the core body of knowledge required by the information professions, but are also able to select a programme that specialises in a preferred study or career path, as a qualification can be earned with an endorsement of either LIBS (library science) or ARCR (archives and records management).
Our programmes also have an international reputation, with all the Information Studies programmes accredited by the Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia (formerly RMAA), and recognition from the American Library Association (ALA). We are also happy say that the Master of Information Studies (with the LIBS endorsement) has been accepted for the purpose of registration by LIANZA, though students should be aware that some elements of the BoK are in the elective course INFO 542.
