SCHOOL OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Master of Arts (MA)

The School of Information Management offers a Master of Arts (MA) degree in two of its disciplines:

  • Communications
  • Library and Information Studies

The MA in Communications is by thesis (COMM 591). It may be undertaken in one full calendar year of full-time study, or up to three years part-time study. It is designed for Honours graduates in any discipline who wish to undertake supervised research in a field of communications and information technology, or who wish to eventually pursue a PhD.

The MA in Library and Information Studies is by thesis (LIBR 591), or by a thesis and up to four courses which could be chosen from the MIS or MIM schedules. This offers the opportunity for more in-depth research than is possible in the Master of Information Studies Programmes.

Further information and guidelines about the Master of Arts can be found on the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences website.

Note: information about scholarships and grants available to students at Victoria University is available from the Scholarships website, including a download of the upcoming Postgraduate Scholarships closing dates (updated monthly).

Admission Criteria

To become a candidate for admission, the applicant will normally have a first degree of an acceptable standard. Exceptions to this rule may be made if the applicant has extensive experience or abilities that the School believes can compensate for the absence of these academic qualifications.

Please contact our Administration Office for application forms and a guide to the process.
