An honours degree in Information Systems gives you an edge in a competitive job-market and opens up the possibility of studying for a higher degree. Contact the Programme Director if you want to find out more about how a BCA(Hons) can help you achieve your goals.
Admission to the BCA(Hons)
To enrol in the BCA(Hons) in Information Systems Programme, you need to have:
- Completed a BCA degree or equivalent
- 45 points from ELCM or INFO 300-399
- Been accepted into the programme by the Programme Director or Head of School
Your BCA will normally include an above-average performance in the prerequisite courses (or their equivalents) appropriate to your intended subject. "Above-average performance" is normally B+ or above in core 300-level courses. If you are transferring from another tertiary institution, your academic background will be examined carefully to ensure that the prerequisites are satisfied.
If you do not have a BCA, your degree must have a substantial number of courses which could contribute to a BCA (including all of the BCA core), and must contain the necessary prerequisites. You may need to complete a programme of preliminary study before applying for the programme.
If you have a BA, you may wish to consider the BA (Hons)/MA programme in your subject area. Please contact the relevant subject co-ordinator to discuss your options.
Applying for the BCA(Hons)
Please apply via the Online Enrolments System. Your application will need to include additional documents such as your CV and a written letter of application, which should address the following questions:
- Why you want to complete BCA(Hons)?
- Why you think you should be accepted into this limited entry programme?
- And if you are intending to study part-time, why you need to study part-time?
Applications can be submitted online from 1 October to 10 December. These will be considered by a panel of academic staff members, and applicants will be invited for an interview. Students will be notified after 10 December whether their application is successful, declined, or conditionally accepted pending further information.
International students are required to submit applications to Victoria International along with their Application to Study as an International Student.
Need More Information?
An information session is held every year in September or October, which provides a more in-depth overview and an opportunity to meet academic staff who teach the Programme. Please contact the SIM Administration Office if you want to be notified when this is happening.
