Benoit Aubert is Professor of Information Systems and Head of the School of Information Management, Victoria Business School (Victoria University of Wellington). In the past he held the Professorship in Governance and Information Technology at HEC Montreal (Canada). He also worked as a faculty member at Laval University in Quebec City (Canada).

Professor Aubert is a Fellow of the CIRANO and Associate Researcher of the CEFRIO. He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the CIRANO, Director of Research at HEC Montreal, and Director of the IS Research Group at HEC Montreal.

Professor Aubert's main research areas are outsourcing, risk management, and new organisation forms. His work on risk management has led to software products and licensing agreements between the university and private organisations. He also published papers on trust, ontology, and health care information systems. He received funding from the Social Science and Humanities Council (SSHRC), the Fonds pour la Recherche Societe et Culture (FQRSC), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Professor Aubert has a long record of collaborations with both private and public organisations as well as with government agencies. He frequently acts as expert consultant on outsourcing decisions, IT strategy and enterprise reorganisations.

Professor Aubert is a member of the Editorial Review Board of IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (IEEE-TEM). IEEE, an association dedicated to advancing innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity, is the world’s largest technical professional society.

Professor Aubert's PhD students are engaged in research projects such as:

Professor received the J.E. Hodgetts Award Honorable Mention for the article “Public Sector Performance and Decentralization Rights” by BA Aubert and S Bourdeau, published in Canadian Public Administration .

The Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS) Best Paper Award 2012 was presented to Benoit A. Aubert, Jean-François Houde, Michel Patry & Suzanne Rivard for the paper “A multi-level investigation of information technology outsourcing” Volume 21, Issue 3, Pages 233-244.

Current research

Current projects investigate various aspects of changes in organizations associated with IT, for example: the influence of IT on the innovativeness of the firm and on its productivity level, the transformation of the justice system through digitisation, and the redefinition of distance in client-supplier relationships.
