Research interests

Dr Mairead de Roiste undertakes research in GIS and has substantive research interests into how people use geographic information and systems incorporating usability, geovisualization and public participation GIS. Mairead’s other research interests span transport modelling, pedagogy and GIS capability building. Current research projects include modelling residential and transport decisions in the Greater Wellington Region, establishing usability methods for online maps, capturing and understanding student perceptions of safety, and graduate pathways to industry.

Student research enquiries are welcomed in to any of these areas at both masters and PhD levels. Past student projects include perceptions of crowdsourcing in authoritative datasets, developing a trust model for volunteered geographic information, the effect of different models of waiting times on public transport modelling, and modelling accessibility to age care facilities.
