The School of Economics and Finance (SEF) has 26 academic staff and spans the areas of economics, econometrics, finance and economic history. It provides courses for Bachelors, (graduate) Honours, Masters and PhD degrees, as well as Postgraduate Diplomas and Master of Applied Finance within the Victoria International Applied Finance Programme.
Staff also teach in degrees and diplomas offered by the School of Accounting and Commercial Law and Victoria Management School including MPA, MBA, and MPP.
The School of Economics and Finance has very strong links with the business and financial community located in the capital city, with a range of government departments, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the New Zealand Institute of the Study of Competition and Regulation. In addition, the School has vigorous ongoing interaction between the public and private sectors.
The School of Economics and Finance is involved in Reserve Bank of New Zealand's Professorial Fellowship in Monetary & Financial Economics programme. Funded through the Victoria University Foundation, the programme aims to enhance the development of monetary policy in New Zealand by inviting specialists of high international repute to visit New Zealand to present research and to stimulate and promote thinking on monetary policy issues.
