Outreach ProgrammesThe School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, offers an outreach educational programme in Chemistry, Physics and Engineering each year. The half day programme aims to give a group of students selected from your School the opportunity to come to Victoria University and carry out experiments in Chemistry, Physics and Electrical Engineering at the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences. We intend the programme to extend students who have a strong interest in Science, particularly Chemistry, Physics and Engineering, and who like a challenge. The programme will provide your students with an opportunity to visit Victoria University and experience the excitement of experimental Chemistry, Physics and Electrical Engineering in a tertiary educational environment. We run a senior programme for students in years 12 and 13 in the mid year. The programme consists of 120 minute sessions that start at 9.30am and 12:30pm. Your school can book up to two choices of Chemistry, Physics and Electronic Engineering for your senior students’ workshops. Please note that health and safety regulations require all students attending Chemistry workshops to wear closed shoes. The junior programme, for students in years 9 and 10, consists of two 60 minute sessions that run from 9.30am to 12.00noon separated by a provided morning tea break. These two sessions are workshops in Chemistry and Physics. Due to popularity of our outreach programme we have needed to limit 1 visit per school for the junior programme. There is a limit of 20 students per group and they must be accompanied by at least two adults. We find that these visits are most successful when at least one of the chaperones is a science teacher.
