Astronomy and astrophysics

Tailed radio galaxies
The tailed radio galaxies at the core of the galaxy cluster Abell 3125.

Astrophysics is the application of physics to uncover and understand phenomena in the universe. We carry out research in the following areas:

  • clusters of galaxies and large scale structure
  • cosmic magnetism
  • astronomical image processing for next generation radio telescopes (SKA, ASKAP, MWA)
  • the star-forming reservoir in the early Universe
  • the interplay between supermassive black holes and their host galaxies
  • machine learning and data-mining in preparation of the next generation of large radio telescopes
