Awhina Celebrations

First Queen's Service Medal for Te Rōpū Āwhina

Āwhina whānau recently celebrated their first milestone for 2010 with the awarding of the New Years Honour -
Queen’s Service Medal to Liz Richardson for services to Māori and Pacific education. This medal is an
acknowledgement of the hard work and ongoing commitment of Liz, Āwhina whānau members and
community supporters over the past 10 years.

Attributed to the fact that nothing is ever done in isolation or without input from others, Liz accepted this
Honour on behalf of everyone who has contributed to Āwhina's success. Hopefully it will assist us with our
future work developing and strengthening what we have collectively achieved.

Āwhina “Cybrospace: Journeys to Success” booklet launched

The Āwhina booklet “Cybrospace Journeys to Success” was launched by the Minister for Māori Affairs at the “Māori Whānau in Science Day” at Parliament.  This booklet contains some of the inspirational real-life stories of Āwhina whānau in a format that we hope will appeal to rangatahi Māori and ‘turn up their success gene’ so they go on to become scientists, technologists, engineers, architects and designers, and contribute to Māori development.

If you would like to join Scibro, Geneti-sis and Āwhi as they travel through Cybrospace contact Āwhina on (04) 463 5987 or teropuawhina@gmail.com for a booklet.
