Welcome to the Sponge Ecology and Marine Conservation Research Group.

The School of Biological Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington hosts one of the largest sponge ecology groups in the world, leading research in many locations worldwide including New Zealand, UK, the Central Pacific, Indonesia, Hawaii and the South Pacific.

Our research employs a number of approaches, including the use of genetic tools, modeling, laboratory experiments and field studies, to support the management and conservation of commercial and non-commercial species.
