Biodiversity and Conservation
We are using DNA sequence analysis to complement traditional morphological descriptions to create a new methodology for the next generation of biological systematists.
To date we have analysed:
- native parrots (kaka and kea).
A new initiative characterising New Zealand crab spiders (thomisids) is being undertaken with the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa.
We are currently involved in the following projects:
- systematics of thomisid spiders
- evolution of native parrots and parakeets
- Cook Islands flycatcher conservation
