About the Malaghan Institute

The Malaghan Institute is New Zealand’s premier vaccine and immunology research centre and is a charitable trust.  Our scientists are dedicated to the prevention and treatment of cancer, asthma and allergy, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and human hookworm, through the development of more effective immunological based disease therapies. We work closely with hospitals, clinics, universities and Crown Research Institutes throughout New Zealand and have an extensive network of international collaborators.

The Malaghan Institute has strong links with VUW research and academia, in particular Dr Anne La Flamme, who heads our Multiple Sclerosis research programme and Dr Mattie Timmer who co-heads our Immunoglycomics research group.

Our scientists are also collaborating on research projects with Dr Bill Jordan, Dr Lifeng Peng and Prof John Miller of the School of Biological Sciences  and Dr Richard Tilley from the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences. Several of our senior research staff are lecturers in the School of Biological Sciences.
