In recent decades the New Zealand 'welfare state' has undergone dramatic transformation. This course explores social policy in relationship to collaborative governance and civil society in New Zealand and internationally. The first half of the course will explore the theoretical foundations of governance and civil society, particularly the increasing reliance on NGOs. The second half of the course will engage in critical discussion of case studies and provide the opportunity to practice various methods of collaborative governance. 100% internal assessment.
