Auditing, Governance and Regulation

The Auditing, Governance and Regulation research group shares current research and developments in the fields of auditing, governance and regulation.

The objective of the Auditing, Governance, and Regulation research group is to foster dialogue and increase collaboration between academics, as well as with others with an interest in these topics, nationally and internationally. The group meets regularly at lunchtimes where members or invited speakers present their current research. Invited speakers have included PhD students who are researching on topics relevant to the group.

The Auditing, Governance and Regulation research group comprises nine academics, with a broad range of research interests and backgrounds. These research interests include:

  • regulation of capital markets
  • accounting and auditing regulation
  • auditor independence
  • auditor entity conflict resolution
  • auditor choice
  • auditor quality
  • corporate governance disclosures
  • voluntary and mandatory disclosure
  • regulation of insolvency practitioners
  • corporate governance, accountability and transparency in the public and private sectors
  • accounting standards regulation
  • directors' duties.

One member of the research group is a member of the Securities Commission and another is a lay member assisting the High Court in cases involving appeals related to decisions of the Commerce Commission and other matters under the Commerce Act. One member is a former Deputy Controller and Auditor-General.
