As part of an Oceania-wide Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) conference held in April, Victoria students Jared Cotton, David Cheng, Maria Burns and Harry Berger participated in the Deloitte Best Practices competition and an ethical decision-making workshop.

The Best Practices competition saw teams prepare presentations of their Chapters' plans and initiatives for the upcoming year with a focus on how to measure their strategies' success. The three categories of the competition were: Community Outreach, Leadership Development and Strategic Planning.

The competition was a huge success for the Victoria University Chapter of BAP with Maria and Harry coming first in the Community Outreach category, and Jared and David coming second in the Strategic Planning category. The Chapter will now compete in the Community Outreach Best Practices competition in Anaheim, California in August.

The meeting also provided the opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers from accounting professionals, graduates and entrepreneurs.

These presentations were a personal highlight for Maria.

"I enjoyed hearing from inspiring people who discussed the coming changes in the accounting and professional services industry and how we, as future business leaders, can begin to adapt to ensure that we are still value adding."

David most appreciated the opportunity to meet and learn from the experience of other university chapters in the Oceania region, in particular how they addressed similar issues.

"I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and connect with students from other universities. To be able to share ideas and collaborate on issues that all our Chapters are facing was a valuable experience," he said.

David, Harry, Jared, and Maria are looking forward to implementing what they learned at the conference, as well as to hosting the organisation’s regional meeting in Wellington next year.
