A New Zotero Champion
For managing my references, I’ve recently made the transition to Zotero from Endnote. I'm enjoying Zotero because it is easier to use, less cumbersome than EndNote and a breeze to add and organise references into folders (not separate libraries). Also, it links my stored references to any computer (handy because I work from multiple campuses). It is freeware, so you don't need to buy any software to use it and you can easily take the content with you if you leave VUW. I easily transferred all my stored content from my EndNote libraries. The only downside is that Zotero has 100MB capacity, so I am keeping the actual pdfs organised in Dropbox..
If you are interested in giving it a go, I’ve included the links for Zotero installation and use for your consideration:
Quick Start Guide to using Zotero
a. Zotero attaches itself to the Firefox browser so you can click to add a source.
a. Once attached to Firefox, you can drag and drop your files into folders or click to add sites. There is the option to download a separate Zotero application if you prefer.
a. Free at VUW library!
a. Rather than store all my pdfs on Zotero, I keep them organised in Dropbox, which is also accessible from any computer. Zotero only has 100MB, which is fine for the references only. Dropbox has 2GB and even allows collaborations.
Hope you also get excited when researching and referencing becomes easier and more organised!! Enjoy. Best wishes for your study.
